Trifecta Format – A different format will be played for each set of six holes: Holes #1-6 best-ball | Holes #7-12 shamble | Holes #13-18 scramble

Tees/Flights – All play will be from the blue tees, which will be set to a 6000yd blue/white tee combo yardage. Teams will be split into flights based on combined team playing handicap. The number and size of flights will be dependent on participation.

Handicaps – Each player will receive the following percentage of CH for each set of 6 holes: Best-Ball - 85% | Shamble - 70% | Scramble - 25%, based on the blue tee course rating and taking into account the required CR - Par adjustment; for the scramble portion, team PH will be rounded to the nearest tenth decimal; strokes will be allocated on holes as they fall;

Maximum Differential – Teams outside of a differential of 3 strokes per set of 6 holes (after CH % allowance) will have the higher handicapper reduced down to the maximum allowed.

Optional Payball Game – There will be a signup sheet at the starter shack for teams would like to play in the skins game. Entry is $10 per team with gross skins over flights. Skins are paid pro-rata over the entire 18-hole round.

Prizes – The pot will be split equally to gross and net; teams cannot win both gross and net, and will be awarded single highest valued prize; ties bias towards gross; at least a minimum of 30% of the field will receive prizes; the Club will enhance the prize pot

Chicago Quota Scoring –  Each golfer begins play with negative points based on their playing handicap. The object is for golfers to earn points to try to best meet or exceed their quota and get into positive points. The course quota will be set to -36. For example, a golfer with a 3PH would start with a score of -33, while a 12PH would start with a score of -24. The 3 handicapper must earn 33 points to break even, whereas the 12 handicapper only needs 24 points. Points are awarded for gross scores as follows: Bogey – 1 | Par – 2 | Birdie – 4 | Eagle – 7 | Albatross/HIO – 10. All total scores will combine for an aggregate team final score.

Tournament Rules & Information

Entry Fee: $50 (100% to prizes). Invoices will be emailed to participants.

Tournament Format:

• Round Robin Group Play:

  • Players will be divided into groups of 4 based on handicap index.

  • Each player will play 3 matches, one against each group member.

  • A schedule will be created with a 2-week playing window; however, to meet players' needs, they may play outside the scheduled window.

  • Matches must be completed by June 29th.

  • Each hole is worth 1 point (0.5 points for a tie).

  • A win earns a 3-point bonus.

  • Round Robin matches can end in a tie; no extra holes.

  • Group winners advance to a 16-player single-elimination bracket.

• Bracket Play (Single Elimination):

  • Bracket rounds begin in July, with a two-week completion deadline per match.

  • Final match completion targeted for late August.

  • If a match is tied after 18 holes, sudden-death play begins on the first hole, with handicap strokes applied.

General Rules:

• Match Format: 

  • 18-hole net match play. 

  • The higher handicapper receives the full handicap differential.

  • Players use their handicap index on the day of play.

• Course and Tees:

  • Default Course: Greenback Course

  • Default Tees: Application Standard HLMC tee eligibility

  • It is best practice for players to play the same tees and should do so when possible.

  • Course Alterations: By agreement, players may choose to play their match at any agreed-upon course.

• Scoring/Reporting:

  • When playing at Heron Lakes, use the GolfGenius app to log scores. Players may select the course and tees. This will automatically update points and brackets.

  • When playing an alternate course, use the GHIN app or a paper scorecard to keep score and email results to Aaron Blackwelder (aaronblackwelder@mac.com).

• Scheduling:

  • Players contact each other (view member info in the GolfGenius app or portal).

  • Matches can be played at any agreed-upon time, including club rounds.

  • During club rounds, players may participate in scheduled games (putt everything out).

• Reschedules:

  • Each player may request one reschedule after a match is confirmed.

  • Reschedule requests must be made at least 48 hours before the match time.

• No-Shows and Forfeits:

  • If an opponent fails to appear at the tee time, the present player begins play and wins any hole played.

  • The match is forfeited if the opponent does not join by the start of the 4th hole.

  • During round robin, a forfeited match results in 12 points awarded to the winner. In bracket play, the winner advances.

• Unplayed Matches:

  • Round Robin: Matches not completed by June 29th result in zero points for both players.

  • Bracket Play: Matches not completed by deadlines are decided by a coin toss, simulating 18 holes.

Prizes: 

• 16 players will receive a prize (28% of field); all group winners earn $100; bracket bonuses are 1st - $400 | 2nd - $300 | T3 - $200 (2 players) | T5 - $100 (4 players)

Best-Ball Handicaps – course handicaps are adjusted based on the course rating of tees played and taking into account the required CR - Par adjustment; players receive 90% of the difference in adjusted PH from the lowest PH in the foursome (who plays to 0), with strokes allocated on holes as they fall
